Step 1: Pick three shades of the same color for your background. Starting with your lightest shade, fill in the top third of the background with a flat brush.
Step 2: With the same brush, move to the middle third of your background. Fill it in with the middle shade you chose, blending gradually from the top down.
Step 3: Finish the background by painting the bottom third with the darkest color. Don’t forget to paint the edges of your canvas too!
Step 4: Wash your brush. With yellow paint, or whatever color you like, fill in the entire body of the pineapple.
Step 5: With green paint and the same brush, begin filling in the top of the pineapple. Be careful not to cover the pre-traced lines of the leaves.
Step 6: With a bright green shade of paint, add some highlights to the pineapple leaves too, creating highlights
Step 7: Wash your brush. Then, with orange paint, create “V” shapes in the middle of your pineapple, off-setting one row from the next. This will look like a scale pattern. You can add a slightly different shade of orange right on top of the original orange lines to add more fun!
Step 8: Allow to dry.
Step 9: With a round brush, pick an accent color and add blobs of color inside each “V” shape on the pineapple. This does not have to be perfect.
Step 10: With a smaller liner brush, pick a second accent color and add a smaller blob just underneath those.
Step 11: Outline your design with black paint. If the lines begin to get too big, re-shape the brush with more black paint. You can also use Black Sharpie or a Black Paint Marker for this step.
Step 12: With your round brush, pick an accent color to trace around the outside edge of your pineapple. Pick a color that will “pop” from the background color you chose. Glitter paint works well for this.
Step 13: Paint a line around the body of your pineapple from top to bottom, with this fun color. Leave a little space between the pineapple and this line.
Step 14: Use your finger to blend out the line you painted around the pineapple so it is not so harsh.
Step 15: Using your round brush, fill in any empty spots of paint in the top of your pineapple inside the leaves.
Step 16: Pick an accent color to add small lines inside the top of the pineapple. Pick a color that will “pop” and make you design more fun!
Step 17: Pick one last accent color for inside the pineapple body and use the back of your paint brush to add a dot on top of each blob you painted earlier.
Step 18: Using the same color and your liner brush, add a few small lines inside the top of the pineapple leaves as well.
Step 19: Using a round brush, add blogs of glitter paint inside each section of the pineapple body.
Step 20: Make it fun! Don’t forget to sign your masterpiece when you are done then take a picture and send it to paintingwithjustine@gmail.com.
