1. Use BLACK MARKER to outline pattern lines. Outline inside of moose so forms do not become bulky.
2. Wet Canvas with FLAT BRUSH then mix 6 PARTS WHITE with small amount of BLUE and a small amount of BLACK. Use mix to paint entire canvas using horizontal brush strokes. Add additional water to thin paint as needed so pattern lines can still be seen. Save brush.
3. Using the same brush, mix 2 PARTS WHITE with a small amount of BLACK and a small amount of BLUE and a small amount of GREEN. Use this mix to paint water using horizontal and contouring strokes (for water flowing around moose) and blending with base coat. Use same brush to add small amount of BLACK and small amount of BLUE to remaining mix to paint deeper shading in water, blending with previous mixes on canvas. Rinse brush.
4. Use FLAT BRUSH to mix 2 PARTS WHITE with 2 small parts of YELLOW. Use mix to paint horizon line in sky, painting horizontal strokes and allowing brush to run out of paint. Use same brush to add small amount of ORANGE to remaining mix. Use new mix to paint orange tones in along horizon line in sky and orange reflections in the water, using very little paint and allowing the brush to run out of paint. Rinse brush.
5. Use FLAT BRUSH to mix 1 PART WHITE with 2 small amounts of ORANGE, and a small amount of BLUE, and a small amount of BLACK. Use mix to paint distant trees and reflections turning brush vertically and using very little paint to create layers. Save brush.
6. Use same brush to mix 2 PARTS GREEN with 1 PART ORANGE, and a small amount of WHITE and a small amount of BLUE and a small amount of BLACK. Use mix to paint closer trees and reflections, turning brush vertically and using very little paint to create layers. Use same brush to add 1 PART BLUE and a small amount of BLACK to remaining mix. Use new mix to blend deep shading in closer trees and around moose. (Use very little paint for reflections, allowing brush to run out of paint.) Rinse brush.
7. Use ROUND BRUSH to mix 1 PART ORANGE with small amount of BLACK. Use mix to paint moose and reflections in water around moose using contouring strokes. Use same brush and BLACK to paint deepest shading on moose and in water reflections. Use same brush and remaining mix to paint tree trunks and branches of closest trees turning brush vertically. Save brush.
8. Use same brush to mix 3 PARTS GREEN with 3 PARTS ORANGE and 1 PART BLACK. Use mix to paint branches on closest trees and grassy hill. Use same brush and mix to paint texture on branches and in grass, using short strokes, following direction of pattern lines, and allowing brush to run out of paint. Use same brush to blend small amounts of BLACK in bottom of hill and in closest trees for deepest shading. Rinse brush.
9. Use ROUND BRUSH to mix 1 PART ORANGE with 1 PART YELLOW and a small amount of BLACK. Use mix to paint closest antler and outline farthest antler. Use same brush to mix 1 PART WHITE with 1 PART YELLOW. Use mix to paint farthest antler blending with outline. Using the same brush mix 1 PART ORANGE with 1 PART YELLOW and a small amount of WHITE. Use mix to paint highlights on moose’s body. Rinse brush.
10. Use ROUND BRUSH to mix 1 PART YELLOW with 1 PART GREEN, 1 PART WHITE and a small amount of ORANGE. Use mix to paint highlights on the closest trees and grass.
